Pekin infrastructure work continues on Technology Park, roads and wastewater system

Pekin’s major infrastructure work remains active in 2026, with continuing development at the Pekin Technology Park, road construction planned between 10th and 8th streets, and a wastewater-overflow project intended to improve treatment before discharge into the Illinois River.
The projects have practical implications for Pekin’s industrial development, future road and utility planning, and wastewater treatment. The Technology Park could support future jobs and tax-base growth, but the city’s current project records do not establish that tenants have moved in or that jobs have been created.
Technology Park remains an active project
The City of Pekin maintains a development-project update page identifying the Pekin Technology Park as an active city development project. That page was posted Feb. 9, 2026, and serves as the latest approved record in the source materials for the ongoing project.
The available record does not provide a new August 2026 construction milestone, a current construction percentage, spending to date or a project-specific announcement about tenants. Those details remain unconfirmed.
Road construction schedule runs through fall 2026
Pekin’s FY2025 annual report says the Illinois Department of Transportation completed the letting process for a third road section extending from 10th to 8th streets. The report says construction began in fall 2025 and is scheduled to finish in fall 2026.
That schedule makes the road section one of the city’s continuing infrastructure developments for residents, commuters and local businesses. The approved records do not establish that the work is complete or identify a revised completion date.
Wastewater project tied to EPA compliance
The same annual report describes a wastewater-overflow project intended to bring Pekin’s sewer-overflow system into compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It also says the project will improve wastewater treatment before treated water is released into the Illinois River.
The report describes the project’s purpose and expected improvements; it does not certify that the work is finished or that the system is fully EPA-compliant. The current construction percentage, spending to date and any effect on residents’ utility costs were not established in the approved records.
Budget priorities
Pekin’s FY2027 recommended budget emphasizes public safety, infrastructure investment and essential community services. The budget is described as recommended, rather than as a final project-completion report.
For now, the known timeline extends through 2026: the road section is scheduled for fall completion, while the Technology Park and wastewater work remain ongoing developments. No final completion notice for either major project was identified.
