For Arlington Heights, the immediate consequence is continued uncertainty over the future of the 326-acre former Arlington International Racecourse property. The Bears have not announced a final stadium location or a construction commitment, and the site remains a proposed development rather than an approved, funded or active construction project.
Two locations remain under consideration
The Bears’ Arlington Heights proposal is competing with a possible location in Hammond, Indiana. After the Illinois impasse, the team said it was moving forward with evaluating the Northwest Indiana site while continuing to consider the Arlington Heights property.
That means the Illinois legislative setback did not amount to a final rejection of Arlington Heights. It also did not produce a final decision in the village’s favor. The most recent approved reporting identifies both Arlington Heights and Hammond as part of the unresolved location question.
The Bears purchased the Arlington Heights property in 2023. Its size and location make the former racetrack a significant local land-use and economic-development issue, even though the stadium proposal has not reached a final agreement.
