Wyandotte’s 2026 resurfacing program brings road, curb and ADA ramp work to city streets

Wyandotte is carrying out its 2026 HMA Resurfacing Program on several city streets, bringing pavement, concrete, curb, sidewalk and accessibility work to parts of Elm Street, Van Alstyne Street, Cedar Street and 12th Street.

The City of Wyandotte contracted with Al’s Asphalt Paving Co. for the program. Concrete panel replacement on 12th Street between Pine and Lee was scheduled to begin June 5, 2026.

Where work is planned

Project notices identify Elm Street between Biddle Avenue and the Detroit River and Van Alstyne Street between Oak Street and Chestnut Street. Cedar Street is also included in the program.

The work is not limited to paving. The program includes curb and sidewalk improvements, along with upgrades to sidewalk ramps to meet current federal accessibility standards. Some grassy areas next to the work will be regraded and restored.

For residents along the affected streets, the construction may mean temporary changes to how they reach driveways, park and move through work zones. Driveway access may be restricted for up to 14 days while construction is underway.

What residents should expect

The city’s construction guidance addresses driveway access, parking, irrigation, sidewalks and lawn restoration. Residents and property owners should watch for work-zone notices and plan for temporary access restrictions when crews are working near their homes.

Trash collection is expected to continue on regular scheduled days during the project. That means construction activity is not expected to change the city’s normal collection schedule, although residents may still need to follow any temporary access instructions posted near their properties.

The resurfacing program is intended to improve pavement conditions while also addressing drainage grades and pedestrian access. Regrading adjacent grassy areas and replacing or improving concrete can affect the space between the street and nearby properties during construction, before those areas are restored.

The June 5 start for concrete panel replacement on 12th Street is the specific date identified in the city’s notices. The notices identify the streets included in the broader 2026 program but do not provide one completion date for all of the work or a complete street-by-street construction schedule.
