White Salmon water-main construction continues through summer 2026

White Salmon began construction in March 2026 on Phase IIA of a water-transmission-main replacement project that will install a new 20-inch main, add water-service connections and restore affected streets and work areas.

The project follows a public open house held Feb. 24. The City of White Salmon says the work is intended to replace aging transmission lines and improve the reliability of the city’s water system, including its ability to provide fire-flow capacity.

Where construction is taking place

Primary construction corridors include Forrester Drive, Powerhouse Road and SR-141/West Jewett Boulevard. The project also includes new water services and upgraded property connections along Knoll Road, Arnett Road and nearby streets in the Arnett Road area.

Residents, businesses and other travelers in those areas may encounter work zones, traffic control and temporary lane impacts as crews install the transmission main and complete service-connection work. The city’s project information identifies the potential traffic effects but does not announce a water-service interruption.

Work continues beyond main installation

Installing the pipe is one part of the scheduled work. Crews also must complete final connections, test the system, commission the new infrastructure and restore affected streets and other work areas.

Construction is continuing through summer 2026. The City of White Salmon has not specified a final completion date, so the timing of the last connections, testing, commissioning and restoration remains open.

For people who live, work or travel along the listed corridors, the immediate practical effect is the possibility of changing traffic controls and lane conditions while the city replaces transmission infrastructure and updates connections to nearby properties.

Separate water-system project

White Salmon has also described a separate water-system project involving a booster pump station and upgrades serving the North Main/Simmons Road pressure zone. The city said that work addresses reservoir-storage limitations affecting reliable supply and emergency fire flow.

That separate project was funded with a $2,406,034.44 Public Works Board loan and $177,500 in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds. Those amounts apply to the North Main/Spring Street water-system improvements and are not identified as the funding total for every element of the Phase IIA transmission-main project.

Together, the projects represent separate pieces of the city’s water-system work: Phase IIA is focused on replacing transmission lines and completing connections in several corridors, while the North Main/Spring Street project addresses pumping, pressure-zone service and reservoir-storage limitations.
