Walmart Reannounces Recall of 165,250 Mainstays Dressers
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Walmart reannounced a recall Thursday, August 27, 2026, involving about 165,250 Mainstays nine-drawer fabric dressers after some recalled units reached consumers through four named liquidators.
The dressers can tip over when they are not anchored to a wall, creating tip-over and entrapment hazards that could seriously injure or kill children. CPSC says the products violate the mandatory clothing-storage-unit safety standard required under the STURDY Act.
About 165,000 of the dressers were previously recalled in May 2026. The latest notice is intended to reach buyers who may have obtained the furniture outside Walmart’s ordinary retail channels, including through the liquidators identified by CPSC.
What dressers are covered
The recalled Mainstays furniture has a black metal frame and nine brown or black fabric drawers with handles. Each dresser measures about 40 inches long, 13.75 inches wide and 45 inches tall, and weighs about 32 pounds.
The dressers were manufactured from September 2023 through December 2025. A tracking or lot number and the production date in month-and-year format appear on a label under the dresser’s top panel. The product name also appears on the order receipt and packaging.
The dressers were sold nationwide through Walmart stores and Walmart.com from September 2023 through March 2026 for about $80. CPSC said recalled dressers were also sold to consumers after the original recall through these four named liquidators:
- OMG California Community in Riverside, California
- Threads of Fenton in Fenton, Michigan
- Golden Cone Electronic Inc. in Elkhart, Indiana
- ReturnPro in Miami, Florida
CPSC did not describe those businesses as a nationwide liquidator network. The overall recall is national because the dressers were sold through Walmart stores and Walmart.com nationwide.
What consumers should do
If the dresser is not anchored to a wall, consumers should stop using it immediately and place it where children cannot access it. The stated hazard concerns instability when the unit is unanchored; the notice does not say that every dresser presents the same risk under every condition.
CPSC says consumers should contact Walmart for a full refund. The remedy instructs consumers to return the dressers’ drawers to any Walmart store and dispose of the frame according to applicable local and state regulations.
Consumers who bought the furniture from one of the named liquidators or through a resale channel should still check the dresser and contact Walmart about the refund process. Walmart lists customer assistance at 800-925-6278 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central time Monday through Friday, along with online recall information.
Buyers should use Walmart’s official recall page or the CPSC notice rather than responding to unsolicited recall text messages. Walmart says it does not send product-recall text messages.
What is known about injuries
CPSC says no incidents or injuries have been reported involving these dressers. The agency is warning about the potential for serious injury or death to children if an unstable unit tips over or traps a child.
Consumers should monitor CPSC and Walmart for additional identification details or changes to the remedy instructions. The CPSC notice identifies the recall as number 26-726.
