Lubbock cleared 8,000-record backlog; 200-plus updates awaited review
Lubbock County had finished processing more than 8,000 voter records tied to a Texas Department of Public Safety data-transfer problem by Oct. 13, Elections Administrator Troy Havard told Lubbock Lights on Oct. 16. More than 200 separate online voter-update records still awaited review as of his Oct. 16 account.
At an Oct. 12 Commissioners Court meeting, Havard said about 1,000 records remained in the original backlog and 11 temporary workers were helping process it. Spending on those workers had exceeded $8,000, excluding overtime. Havard later reported that the county completed the remaining original-backlog records on Oct. 13.
The online updates were a separate batch. Havard had not determined whether they were connected to a separately reported statewide address-validation error. He told Lubbock Lights on Oct. 16 that he expected review to finish by Oct. 19 or shortly afterward; that was an expectation, not a confirmed completion.
In that Oct. 16 account, Havard estimated total cleanup costs would exceed $12,000, said the estimate was not final, and reported that the county had not yet received reimbursement. Early voting for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election is scheduled for Oct. 19 through Oct. 30.
