Democrat Chris Pappas has defeated Republican John E. Sununu in New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate race, keeping the open seat in Democratic hands.
Pappas, a U.S. representative, becomes the first openly gay man elected to the Senate. The Associated Press and The New York Times reported his victory.
