Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega says elections will end as U.N. chief warns of deeper crackdown
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said on July 20 that the country would no longer hold elections. U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk condemned the proposal two days later, warning that measures to bar political opponents would deepen the erosion of civil and political rights.
