Community Voices Concerns Over Amkor Facility
Peoria residents have raised significant concerns regarding the recently approved Amkor semiconductor facility. During a city council meeting, community members expressed worries about potential pollution and increased traffic congestion that the facility might bring to the area.
โThat thing should not be in a planned community; it should be in an industrial park for a variety of reasons,โ said Steve Riggins, a local resident.
City officials addressed these concerns, emphasizing the projectโs expected benefits, including the creation of approximately 2,000 jobs and its role in strengthening the nationโs semiconductor supply chain.
Cityโs Response
Peoria City Manager Mike Faust highlighted the projectโs importance, stating, โIt was a great investment to the West Valley to let people work and live in the same community.โ
Next Steps
Despite the communityโs concerns, the project is moving forward as planned. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in future city council meetings to voice their opinions.
