Peoria Gas and Diesel Rise Friday to $4.512 and $5.636

Peoria-area fuel prices climbed again Friday, with diesel rising more sharply than regular gasoline in AAA’s July 31, 2026, Peoria metro averages.

Regular gasoline reached $4.512 per gallon, up 4.3 cents from Thursday. Diesel reached $5.636 per gallon, an increase of 9.4 cents from the previous day. These are metro averages, not prices at every station in Peoria, so individual pumps may be higher or lower depending on location, fuel grade, payment method and competition.

Diesel is moving faster than regular gas

The latest weekly comparison shows the same pattern. AAA lists regular gasoline 16.1 cents higher than it was one week earlier, while diesel is up 23 cents over the same period.

Compared with one month ago, regular gasoline is 61.9 cents higher and diesel is 65.7 cents higher. The year-over-year gap is larger still: regular gas is up $1.218 per gallon, while diesel is up $1.988.

For a driver filling a 15-gallon tank, the weekly gasoline increase alone represents about $2.42 more than the comparable fill-up a week earlier, before differences among stations and vehicle fuel economies are considered. Diesel users face a larger increase per gallon, which can matter for delivery vehicles, contractors, commercial fleets and other businesses that rely on heavier vehicles.

National prices also rose in the latest weekly data

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s July 28 weekly update put regular gasoline at a national average of $4.096 per gallon and on-highway diesel at $5.313 for the week of July 27. Both were higher than the prior week. Those figures provide broader context, but they are national weekly averages rather than same-day prices for Peoria.

What higher pump prices can mean locally

For Peoria households, the immediate concern is the effect on commuting, errands and weekend travel. Higher diesel costs can also work through delivery charges, service calls, construction activity and the operating expenses of local businesses with work trucks or vans.

Those effects will vary by household and company. Actual costs depend on driving distance, vehicle type, fuel efficiency and whether a business can adjust routes or pass some expenses along to customers. The latest figures show that both fuels remain well above their earlier weekly, monthly and yearly comparison points, with diesel experiencing the larger increase.
