First Friday lights up downtown

Bremerton’s monthly First Friday returns tonight, February 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., bringing added energy to downtown, Manette, and the Callow Avenue corridor. The evening features extended gallery hours, local artists, and pop-up activities hosted by businesses and community groups across multiple neighborhoods.

The event is free and designed to be walkable, encouraging residents and visitors to move between storefronts, studios, and gathering spaces. Over time, First Friday has become a reliable way to draw people out during the winter months, creating a consistent boost in evening foot traffic and a more active street atmosphere.

While each month’s lineup varies, the focus remains the same: highlighting local creativity, supporting small businesses, and giving neighbors a reason to explore parts of the city they may not visit as often after dark.

Public comment open on Shore Drive shoreline project

The city is currently accepting public comments on a proposed shoreline project at 701 Shore Drive. The application outlines plans to replace an aging timber bulkhead with a rock bulkhead, along with associated shoreline mitigation work.

According to project materials, the proposal includes excavation, installation of concrete steps, and new shoreline plantings. The project is under environmental review, and this public comment period is expected to be a key opportunity for residents to weigh in before a decision is made.

Comments must be submitted by 5 p.m. on February 20. Community members with concerns or support for the project are encouraged to review the application details and provide feedback within the open window.

City meetings and closures ahead

Bremerton’s February civic calendar includes several upcoming meetings and a holiday closure. A City Council study session is scheduled for February 11, followed by a regular City Council meeting on February 18. Both meetings will be held at the Norm Dicks Government Center.

City Hall will be closed on February 16 in observance of Presidents’ Day. Residents planning in-person visits or needing city services should factor the closure into their schedules.

The local events calendar remains busy as well. Parks and recreation activities continue through the weekend, including the Daddy Daughter Dance on Saturday evening, adding another option for families during an already active early-February stretch.
