Airport upgrades come online
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport marked a major milestone this week with the completion and public unveiling of its $546 million Gateway Project. The work focused on the north end of the main terminal and was designed to make travel smoother from curb to gate.
Travelers will notice redesigned security checkpoints, expanded check-in space, automated bag drops, upgraded baggage claim areas, and new art installations that reflect the Pacific Northwest. The improvements are intended to ease congestion during peak travel periods and improve accessibility.
More changes ahead for SEA
While the Gateway Project is now complete, airport construction is far from finished. A separate expansion of the C Concourse is underway, adding new public space, dining, and retail options. That project is expected to open later this spring, ahead of a busy summer travel season.
Airport leaders say these projects are part of a longer-term effort to modernize facilities as passenger volumes continue to rebound and major international events approach.
Long-term civic campus plans move forward
Beyond the airport, the City of SeaTac recently closed on land for a future civic campus near Angle Lake Station. The purchase finalized in late December gives the city a centrally located site for a new City Hall and consolidated public services.
City officials describe the campus as a generational investment aimed at improving access to city services and strengthening connections to light rail and nearby trails. Planning and design work is expected to continue throughout 2026.
What it means locally
Together, the airport upgrades and civic campus planning point to a period of visible change in SeaTac. Residents and travelers alike can expect ongoing construction activity, but also long-term improvements to mobility, public services, and the city’s front door.
