Housing Policy Back in the Spotlight

Los Gatos officials took a significant step this week in the ongoing debate over housing growth. On February 6, the Town Council introduced a new approach aimed at limiting where multi-family housing could be built, even as the town works to secure state approval of its overdue Housing Element.

The discussion reflected a familiar tension: meeting state housing mandates while trying to preserve the town’s existing neighborhood character. Council members emphasized protecting single-family and moderate-density areas, signaling that housing policy will remain a central local issue in the months ahead.

Wildfire Prevention Work Continues

Across several open space areas, crews are continuing vegetation management and defensible space work as part of Los Gatos’ wildfire risk reduction efforts. Work is active around Heintz and Santa Rosa open spaces and will extend into nearby parks.

Town officials say residents can expect to see tree and vegetation crews on weekdays during daylight hours. The effort is part of a longer-term push to reduce hazardous fuel and improve safety ahead of future fire seasons.

Plaza Park Fountain Still Offline

In downtown Los Gatos, the popular fountain at Town Plaza Park remains out of service while repairs continue on its ultraviolet water treatment system. The system is required for safe public use, and the fountain will stay off until repairs are completed.

Town staff expect the work to wrap up later this spring. In the meantime, the rest of the park remains open, and officials are asking for patience as the fix moves forward.

Looking Ahead

Between housing decisions at Town Hall, visible wildfire prevention work, and infrastructure maintenance in public spaces, Los Gatos residents are seeing how long-term planning and day-to-day operations intersect. More council discussions and on-the-ground projects are expected as February continues.
