Bixby’s growth story keeps showing up in big-ticket projects: schools are adding space, and downtown is lining up another major mixed-use build. Meanwhile, weekend traffic and weeknight schedules are getting busier—both on campus and at City Hall.

1) New Bixby High School academic building breaks ground next week

District leaders are set to break ground Tuesday, February 10, on a new academic building at Bixby High School. Plans call for roughly 200,000 square feet of additional learning space, with a price tag reported at more than $70 million and paid for through previous school bond packages.

With construction happening right on an active campus, families should expect changed drop-off and pick-up patterns and slower traffic at peak times. The district is encouraging extra patience and caution as work ramps up.

2) “Iconik” project announced for downtown River District

City leaders also highlighted a new four-story development—described as the largest in downtown Bixby’s history—planned just north of City Hall near 151st Street and Memorial. The project is expected to blend apartments with ground-floor retail and structured parking, aiming to add more residents and foot traffic to the River District.

Construction timing shared so far points to a start as early as this fall, which would bring another round of lane closures, deliveries, and detours to the downtown area as the site mobilizes.

3) Friday night sports: Spartans hosted Enid

On Friday, February 6, Bixby’s varsity basketball teams were scheduled for a home doubleheader against Enid, with the girls tipping at 6:30 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m. Looking ahead, the winter calendar stays packed with road games at Union on February 10 and another home night on February 12.

Coming up at City Hall (Monday)

Bixby’s City Council work session and regular meeting are both scheduled for Monday, February 9, at the Municipal Building on North Cabaniss. Agendas are typically posted ahead of time, and residents can follow along for updates on projects, budgets, and development items.
