Polar Plunge fundraiser returns Feb. 14

Special Olympics Iredell County is gearing up for its annual Polar Plunge at the Statesville Leisure Pool. Organizers say the event supports local athletes who train and compete across a wide range of sports throughout the year.

Plan for registration to start in the morning, with a costume contest and a separate “Pee Wee Plunge” for younger kids. If you’re looking for a very Statesville way to spend a winter Saturday, this is it.

Black History Month programs fill the library calendar

The main public library in Statesville has a schedule of free Black History Month events, including a local-history panel discussion and several talks and screenings spread across February. Programs focus on Iredell County history, genealogy resources, and community storytelling.

Many of the sessions are set at the Statesville library downtown, with registration encouraged for some programs.

Two charged after business break-in investigation

The sheriff’s office says two suspects have been charged in connection with a break-in at a business off Sharon School Road. Investigators described evidence at the scene including a broken window and signs of forced entry, and reported cash and merchandise were taken.

The case stems from a February 1 early-morning alarm response and follow-up investigation.

Planning Board: special-called meeting set for Feb. 9

The city posted a special-called Planning Board meeting for Monday night after a late-January meeting was canceled due to weather. The agenda is expected to include the postponed items along with an additional item tied to economic development.
