Fredericksburg Daily Brief: Traffic, New Openings, and Weekend Events

It’s a busy weekend in Fredericksburg, with new traffic alerts, business milestones, and plenty of options to get out of the house today.

Traffic and road work to watch

Starting tomorrow night, drivers on Interstate 95 near the Spotsylvania exit should expect overnight lane closures on the southbound off-ramp to Route 1. Crews will be working on traffic signal upgrades through much of the coming week.

In the city, intersection improvements continue along Route 1 at Fall Hill Avenue and at Princess Anne Street and Hanson Avenue. Most lane closures are planned for overnight hours, but residents may still see periodic slowdowns as work progresses toward a June completion date.

Farther out in the Fredericksburg District, bridge rehabilitation on Route 207 over the Mattaponi River is keeping northbound traffic shifted onto the southbound bridge, with a single lane open in each direction. That project is expected to wrap up in April, so drivers heading toward Caroline County should continue to allow extra travel time.

New businesses and resources

Economic development officials marked two ribbon cuttings this week, underscoring continued growth in local services. Millennium Primary Care celebrated its grand opening, adding another option for primary healthcare in the region.

A new Graze Craze location also opened its doors, bringing a specialty charcuterie and grazing-board shop to the local food scene. Both openings were hosted in partnership with the regional chamber, drawing business leaders and neighbors out despite the winter chill.

For entrepreneurs, a lunchtime workshop earlier in the week offered guidance on establishing business credit, part of an ongoing “First Thursdays” series. City officials are also preparing for the next meeting of the Economic Development Authority on February 9, where future projects and incentives will be on the agenda.

The Fredericksburg area is packed with events this Saturday. Families can head to FXBG KidFest at the convention center for games, activities, and exhibitors geared toward kids and parents.

Elsewhere, a Community Valentines gathering is set to offer crafts and connection ahead of the holiday. In South Stafford, Ku Tea Coffee & Tea Town is hosting a fan-organized cupsleeve event tied to an upcoming pop concert, giving locals a niche way to spend the afternoon with fellow music fans.
