Police & public safety

The much-anticipated “Battle of the Birds” rivalry games between Raytown High School and Raytown South High School, scheduled for today, have been canceled by the Raytown School District. The district announced the change Friday, saying the boys’ and girls’ contests would not be played and that all purchased tickets will be refunded.

District officials did not share specific details about the circumstances leading up to the decision, but emphasized that it was made with student and community safety in mind. They also noted they look forward to supporting both the Blue Jays and the Cardinals through the rest of the basketball season.

Jobs & city services

The Raytown Police Department is actively recruiting new officers, highlighting competitive pay, hiring incentives for both POST-certified and non-certified applicants, and full coverage of academy costs for those who still need training. The department notes that new hires go through written and physical testing, background checks, and a structured field training program before working solo on patrol.

In addition to salary and benefits such as health coverage, pension, and paid time off, the department is encouraging interested residents to schedule a ride-along to get a firsthand look at patrol work before applying.
