It is a busy winter weekend in Glen Ellyn, with sweet treats, summer plans and election-season activities all landing on the same February Saturday.

Paczki preorders already filling up

A new local report highlights how quickly paczki orders are coming in ahead of Fat Tuesday on February 17. Glen Ellyn bakeries are already taking reservations for the rich Polish pastries, and many are setting cutoff dates around February 15 or stopping once they hit capacity. Residents who want specific flavors or larger boxes are being urged to place orders this weekend rather than waiting until the last minute.

Park District opens spring and summer signups

The Glen Ellyn Park District’s Spring Playbook and 2026 Summer Camp Guide are now live, and resident registration opened at 8 a.m. today. Families can reserve spots in day camps, nature programs and sports leagues that will run through spring and summer, with nonresident registration scheduled to open next Saturday. The district is also reminding parents that deadlines are approaching for youth baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball leagues, so early signups can help teams form on time.

Preserving Glen Ellyn’s historic character

Applications are open for the 2026 Historic Preservation Awards, which honor work completed in 2025 on homes, businesses and institutional buildings in the village. Categories cover restoration projects on older structures, sensitive exterior remodeling, new construction that fits established streetscapes, and standout architectural details such as porches, windows and decorative trim. Homeowners, business owners and neighbors can all submit nominations, and applications will be accepted through March 31.

Election season and civic engagement

Election activity is ramping up as well. This week the League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn hosted a virtual forum for candidates in the Democratic primary for Illinois’s 6th Congressional District, giving local voters a closer look at their choices. The League is also gathering members this morning for an annual program-planning workshop and will hold additional public events later in February. At the same time, the village is preparing the Civic Center to again serve as both an early voting location and an Election Day polling place for the March 17 primary, with details and hours posted on the village website.

Around town today

Today’s local calendar also includes a Coffee with the Cops meet-and-greet at the Civic Center, offering residents a relaxed way to talk with police officers about neighborhood concerns. Over at the Main Street Recreation Center, a vision and goal-setting workshop is scheduled this morning, aiming to give neighbors a positive, community-focused start to the rest of 2026.
