New science labs open at Glen Cove High School

Glen Cove families gathered at the high school this week for a special STREAM Night that doubled as the ribbon-cutting for newly renovated science labs. Students guided parents through the classrooms, showing off upgraded equipment, flexible lab space, and hands-on projects they have been working on all year.

School leaders say the modernized labs are designed to support more real-world experiments and collaborative learning in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The evening gave families a chance to see how those upgrades are already being used in classes and after-school programs.

Masquers Society prepares “Legally Blonde” musical

The Glen Cove High School Masquers Society is turning the spotlight on its next production, “Legally Blonde The Musical.” A new announcement from the school highlights the student cast and crew as they head into the final stretch of rehearsals.

The show promises plenty of music, dance, and comedy, and it gives student performers, musicians, and technicians a high-profile opportunity to showcase their talents. Families are encouraged to check school communications for performance dates and ticket information later this month.

Rough, frigid seas for local boaters

Marine forecasts for the waters near Glen Cove call for a harsh stretch of winter weather through the weekend. A gale warning and heavy freezing spray advisory are in effect, with northwest winds expected to gust up to 45 knots on Saturday and seas building to five feet.

Small craft operators are being urged to use caution or stay in port, as freezing spray and low visibility could quickly create dangerous conditions. Winds and seas are expected to gradually ease late Sunday into Monday.

On the community calendar

The city calendar shows the next Glen Cove City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, at 7:30 p.m., with additional Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals sessions later in the month. Residents who want to follow development and zoning issues are encouraged to attend or watch for meeting agendas.

At the same time, community programs continue around town. The Glen Cove Senior Center is promoting its Monday Tai Chi series in February, and the high school calendar highlights an upcoming PTSA meeting on February 9 plus student events continuing through the end of the month.
