City Council meets Monday

The City Council’s next regular meeting is set for Monday, February 9, at City Hall. Residents can review the posted agenda and either attend in person or watch via the city’s online meeting stream. Key routine items typically include updates on city services, contracts and upcoming projects, and there is usually time set aside for public comment.

February events on the community calendar

Several community events are lined up over the next ten days. The city’s calendar lists a Sweetheart Dance on February 13 and 14, offering a family-friendly way to celebrate Valentine’s weekend. City Hall will close on Monday, February 16, for the Presidents’ Day holiday and reopen Tuesday morning. A Board of Zoning Adjustment meeting scheduled for February 17 has been cancelled, so residents with development questions may need to wait for the next session.

Future Leaders Academy and spring programs

Registration remains open for Gladstone’s Future Leaders Academy, a free five-session civic program designed to give residents an inside look at how city government works. Sessions run Wednesday evenings from March 4 through April 8, with graduates recognized at the April 13 City Council meeting. It is a low-pressure way to meet department staff, tour facilities and learn how decisions get made close to home.

Recreation, transit and getting around

For those eager to get moving before outdoor season, the Shamrock Shake-Up Indoor Triathlon is scheduled for March 7 at the community center, combining swim, bike and run segments in a controlled setting. Spots are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Residents who need affordable transportation still have access to the GEST ride service, which launched last fall. For a flat $3 fare, riders can book on-demand, door-to-door trips within Gladstone and to nearby transit stops and medical facilities in surrounding Northland communities.

Looking ahead to summer

The city is already promoting Gladstone USA Freedom Fest at Happy Rock Park on Saturday, July 4. The event is billed as an all-day celebration of America’s 250th birthday, with family activities, local vendors, live music into the evening and a fireworks finale expected to be one of the largest the city has staged.
