Trash pickup changes still in effect

The city’s adjusted trash schedule remains in place after recent route changes tied to new federal driver safety limits. Residents are reminded not to set carts or bulk items at the curb on Sundays, because collection crews are off that day. Missed Friday pickups are being made up the following Friday, when haulers will accept extra bagged household trash at no additional charge. If your bin was skipped recently, keep an eye out for the expanded service this coming Friday.

Lafayette Crossing and Kroger project moving ahead

Even though the announcement came late last year, the Lafayette Crossing development continues to be the biggest local growth story. Plans call for a large Kroger Marketplace grocery store and hundreds of thousands of square feet of additional shops and restaurants at the northwest corner of Interstate 30 and Memorial Parkway. Leasing materials show the site evolving into a major commercial hub for eastern Rockwall County, with new jobs, services, and entertainment options for Fate residents. Infrastructure work is expected over the next few years before the first major anchors open.

City election season is under way

The countdown is on for the May 2 city election, which will decide council places 2 and 3. Candidate packets have been available since early January, and potential candidates now have less than a week left before the February 13 filing deadline. Residents considering a run for local office can review requirements and election calendars through the city’s elections information page.

Public safety events on the spring calendar

Looking a bit further out, the city’s public safety team is promoting several community events. An April 25 open house at the fire station will give families a chance to tour vehicles, meet local police and firefighters, and learn about emergency response. Additional trainings at the community center, including active-shooter response sessions and CPR classes, are planned to help residents build practical safety skills before summer.
