Winterfest brings an 80s vibe downtown

Downtown streets will close today from noon to 4 p.m. for Winterfest, an 80s themed après ski block party. The event is free to enter, with wristbands available for those who want to sample local beer, cider and other drinks in city approved glassware. Food trucks and local vendors are lined up along Main Street with hot dogs, smoked meats, cookies and other cold weather comfort food.

Organizers are encouraging people to dress for the retro theme, plan for chilly but bright afternoon weather and use the designated restrooms off Fifth Street and near Friendship Square.

Winter Market packs the 1912 Center this morning

Earlier in the day, the 1912 Center hosts the February Winter Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 35 vendors are scheduled throughout the building with local foods, handmade goods and art. The Book Room is offering used books by donation, and Palouse based vendors are providing a simple lunch option for shoppers who want to linger.

Families may want to head straight for the free Snowman Store activity in the Arts Workshop, where kids can pick out small gifts while adults browse the rest of the market.

Truck route discussions keep moving

Regional reporting this week notes that efforts are still underway on a proposed truck route south of Pullman and Moscow. The long term idea is to shift heavy freight traffic onto improved county roads south of town instead of routing large trucks through the downtown cores. Local officials have been working for several years on studies and federal grant applications, and that work is continuing into 2026.

Supporters say a safer, more direct truck route could ease congestion and improve pedestrian safety in both cities, while critics remain cautious about cost, noise and impacts on nearby rural residents.

Vandals women host Montana at ICCU Arena

On campus, the Idaho Vandals women’s basketball team hosts Montana this afternoon at ICCU Arena, with tipoff set for 1 p.m. The matchup gives local fans another midseason home game and is expected to draw a mix of students, families and visiting alumni to the university district.
