Saginaw continues to feel more like a small city than a bedroom suburb today, with big construction moves, creative classrooms, and busy student teams.

Mixed-use projects reshape Saginaw’s gateways

North of Fort Worth, construction is moving ahead on the Beltmill development at Business 287 and Bailey Boswell Road, a more than 115 acre project on the site of a former family farm. Plans call for a blend of shops, offices, nearly 200 single family homes, apartments, senior living, and programmed community spaces that aim to create a walkable destination rather than just another strip of highway retail.

A second project, known as The Square, is planned between Saginaw Boulevard and Old Decatur Road, with sit down restaurants, additional retail, offices, and multifamily housing. City leaders have framed both projects as ways to bring new options and tax base while still protecting Saginaw’s close knit, small town character and relatively low taxes.

Rolling STEM lab parks at Gililland

This week, students at Gililland Elementary stepped into the Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory, a full science lab built inside a trailer that parked outside their campus. Through a partnership supported by the state education agency and a nonprofit operator, kindergarten through fifth grade students rotated through lessons in coding, engineering design, and hands on experiments that match state standards but feel more like a field trip.

The mobile lab brings its own staff, equipment, and curriculum, which district leaders say makes it easier to offer rich STEM experiences without stretching campus resources. At Gililland, the lab was booked as an all day event on Friday, giving every grade level a chance to participate before it moves on to other Eagle Mountain Saginaw campuses.

Busy day for UIL and Rough Rider sports

On the academic side, middle school students from across Eagle Mountain Saginaw are in the Middle School Academic UIL Competition today at Marine Creek Middle School, spending their Saturday on events ranging from math and writing to speaking and fine arts. The meet runs through the early afternoon and will help determine which teams move on to higher level contests this spring.

Back in town, Saginaw High School has just wrapped up a packed Friday night of home basketball against Chisholm Trail and boys soccer versus Brewer, and turns quickly to softball and baseball games with Wichita Falls Legacy at the Saginaw fields today. Families who want to cheer on the Rough Riders can find a nearly wall to wall schedule of scrimmages and games listed on the athletics calendar.

Sunrise in Saginaw came around 7:20 this morning, with sunset a little after 6 this evening, giving residents almost ten hours and forty five minutes of daylight to catch a game, drive past construction sites, or simply enjoy a calmer weekend after a busy school week.
