Public safety: police hiring push

The Auburn Hills Police Department is actively recruiting both full-time police officers and police cadets, highlighting competitive pay, strong retirement benefits, and modern equipment. Cadet roles focus on assisting patrol officers with service calls, front-desk support, and parking enforcement, giving aspiring officers hands-on experience while they complete school or academy training. The push reflects the city’s effort to keep staffing strong as calls for service continue to grow.

New annual report shows crime trending down

A new 2025 annual report from the police department shows Auburn Hills handled more than 27,000 calls for service last year, an increase of just over four percent from 2024. Even with that higher demand, overall serious criminal offenses fell by double digits and misdemeanor offenses dropped by more than a quarter.

The report notes a clearance rate above 70 percent for crimes, well ahead of national averages, and credits proactive patrol work, focused traffic enforcement in neighborhoods, and extensive field training for newer officers. The return of a dedicated Community Engagement Officer and participation in a countywide human trafficking task force are also highlighted as priorities going into 2026.

Civic calendar: downtown and finance boards meet

City Hall will be relatively quiet this weekend, but next week brings several public meetings that shape downtown and economic development. The Downtown Development Authority is scheduled to meet Monday evening, February 9, with an informational session followed by its regular meeting focused on investment and infrastructure in the DDA district.

On Tuesday, February 10, the Tax Increment Finance Authority is set to convene, continuing work on long-term funding tools for key projects. The Zoning Board of Appeals meeting for February 12 has been canceled, while the next regular City Council meeting is on the calendar for Monday, February 16.
