Town prepares new trash-hauling contract

The town is developing a new long term contract for curbside garbage, recycling, and organics collection, set to take effect in October 2027. Staff and consultants are drafting a competitive bidding process and franchise agreement, shaped by community input gathered at public meetings and through a survey.

Residents will be able to hear details and offer feedback at the regular Town Council meeting on Wednesday, February 18, when the contract framework and key policy choices are scheduled for a public presentation.

Future of Windsor Creek School site back on the agenda

Council members are set to receive an update Monday, February 9, at 5 p.m. on options for the former Windsor Creek Elementary School campus at 8955 Conde Lane. The session is intended as an informational meeting to walk through background, potential reuse concepts, and next steps.

No specific project is up for approval yet, but the discussion will help shape how the property could serve neighborhood and townwide needs in the years ahead.

Drop + Go recycling site offers new convenience

A self service California Redemption Value Drop and Go location is now operating at 8955 Conde Lane, at the old school site. Residents who create an account and use special barcoded bags picked up from town offices can leave mixed beverage containers and receive credit without waiting in line at a traditional buy back center.

The redemption machine is operated by a local nonprofit partner and is intended to make it easier to redeem bottles and cans while keeping more materials out of the landfill.

New public art enlivens Old Redwood gateway

A new temporary sculpture by Sonoma County artist Sean Paul Lorentz is being installed at the corner of Old Redwood Highway and Pleasant Avenue. The piece is part of a larger regional exhibition and will sit amid refreshed landscaping that features native trees and pollinator friendly plantings.

The installation adds another stop to Windsor’s growing public art map and offers a fresh focal point for people arriving downtown.

Looking ahead: Earth Day on the Town Green

The town is already planning its Earth Day celebration for Sunday, April 19, on the Town Green. Expect the farmers market, local environmental groups, family activities, traditional Indigenous dance performances, mural tours, and even free bike valet to return as centerpiece features.
