Organizers say the series includes a mix of traditional and virtual caches that highlight parks, landmarks, and scenic spots in the city and nearby Umpqua Valley. Anyone with a smartphone or GPS unit can take part, and the challenge can be completed over time, not just today.

Those who finish the full series can turn in their passport for a limited-edition geocoin, available while supplies last. Staff and veteran geocachers are on hand at the library to help newcomers get set up with apps and basic GPS skills.

Sportsmen’s and Outdoor Recreation Show packs the fairgrounds

The Douglas County Fairgrounds are busy this weekend with the 30th annual Sportsmen’s and Outdoor Recreation Show, which runs through Sunday. The show brings together vendors and experts covering camping, fishing, hunting, boating, off-roading, and other outdoor pursuits popular across the region.

This year’s attractions include live raptor presentations, a section focused on local and regional food products, and prize drawings tied to big-ticket adventure trips. Organizers say the goal is to give families and outdoor enthusiasts a chance to see new gear, book trips, and connect with conservation and recreation groups in one place.

Police report arrest after disturbance on West Harvard

City police reported jailing a 52-year-old man after a disturbance outside a business on West Harvard Avenue late this week. Callers reported a man trying to start fights in a parking lot and throwing punches at another person before officers arrived.

According to the police report, the man was taken into custody without further incident and booked on a disorderly conduct charge along with a parole violation. Bail was set in the low thousands of dollars as the case moves forward.
