Hy-Vee Amphitheater season announcement on deck

North Liberty’s new Hy-Vee Amphitheater at Centennial Park is getting ready for its first full season of performances. City staff plan to unveil the inaugural lineup at a press conference on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. inside the Hy-Vee Center at Centennial Park on St. Andrews Drive.

The new outdoor venue, paired with the adjacent event center, is expected to host concerts, community performances and regional arts partners throughout 2026. City leaders say the season announcement will give residents the first look at who is coming to town and how often the amphitheater will be in use this year.

Wednesday’s announcement will also highlight how the park’s multi-year buildout is creating more space for gatherings, from major ticketed shows to free community events on the north side of town.

Parks and recreation board spotlights busy February

The Parks and Recreation Commission held its regular meeting Thursday night, Feb. 5, reviewing January reports from the parks and recreation departments and previewing this month’s schedule. According to the published agenda, commissioners heard updates on winter programming and facility use before turning to a full slate of upcoming events.

On the near-term calendar are several February highlights, including tonight’s Snuggie Crawl at local establishments, a Boy Scout chili supper, the Candles and Classics performance series at the Hy-Vee Center later this week, and the North Liberty Bike Swap on Feb. 14. The city’s year-round “City Slate” of free events continues alongside these ticketed activities, giving residents plenty of options even in the heart of winter.

Library offers warm indoor options this weekend

For families looking to stay closer to home today, the North Liberty Community Library is hosting Saturday Storytime from 10:30 to 11 a.m., geared toward young children and their caregivers. Storytime is followed by an afternoon Snack program from noon to 2 p.m., offering a casual drop-in option for kids and families.

Similar family Snack sessions continue on Sunday and into early next week, along with coffee hour for adults, early-week storytimes and other age-specific programs. The library’s schedule gives residents a mix of quiet indoor activities and social time, a helpful balance during a cold and breezy stretch of early February.
