City adopts $154.2 million budget

The City has approved a $154.2 million budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year, keeping the main operating fund balanced while expanding investment in local priorities.

Rising property tax revenues from new housing and businesses are helping pay for four new city positions and a wide slate of projects. The plan includes major spending on road repairs, park upgrades, and utility work, while maintaining more than $11 million in reserves for emergencies and long-term stability.

Measure T dollars fuel neighborhood road fixes

City staff also highlighted how regional transportation sales tax funds, known locally as Measure T, are being used to chip away at long-deferred pavement problems.

Recent projects have rebuilt sections of Benton Way, improved bike and pedestrian facilities on American Canyon Way, and filled sidewalk gaps on key neighborhood streets. A newly approved five‑year plan sets out more upgrades, including work in the Rancho Del Mar area and other older residential corridors that have seen heavy wear from growth.

Hydrant flushing coming in March

Public Works is preparing for its annual citywide hydrant flushing program, scheduled to roll through American Canyon neighborhoods in March and April.

The flushing helps clear out built‑up minerals, keep water fresh in the pipes, and ensure hydrants are ready for fire protection. Residents may see brief water discoloration on flushing days and are encouraged to run outdoor and then indoor cold taps for several minutes until the water clears. Utility crews caution that rare valve issues could lead to temporary service interruptions while repairs are made.

Get outside: wetlands “Slow Stroll” this Tuesday

Looking ahead to next week, the American Canyon Community & Parks Foundation will host its monthly “Slow Stroll” on Tuesday, February 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the wetlands.

The free, easy‑paced walk is designed for neighbors of all ages who want gentle exercise, conversation, and a closer look at local wildlife along the shoreline trails. Organizers describe it as a relaxed social outing rather than a workout, making it a friendly entry point for residents who are new to the area or just getting back into walking.
