Federal civil rights lawsuit filed against city and officers

A new federal lawsuit filed this week names the City of Fort Walton Beach and several police officers as defendants in a civil rights case.

Court records show plaintiff Darryl White filed the case on February 4 in the Northern District of Florida. The suit is categorized as a civil rights action under federal law, with the city and four officers listed as defendants.

Summonses were issued on February 5, meaning the process of formally notifying the city and the officers is now underway. The docket does not yet list a hearing date, so it may be some time before detailed allegations and responses are aired in open court.

Vikings boys soccer wins playoff match

On Friday night, Fort Walton Beach High School’s boys soccer team earned a postseason victory, blanking Rickards of Tallahassee 2–0 in a neutral-site playoff match.

The game was part of the Class 4A state championship tournament, and the shutout keeps Fort Walton Beach in contention in the statewide bracket.

Busy Saturday of local events and entertainment

Today brings a full slate of things to do close to home.

At Fort Walton Beach High School, the theatre department is staging a production of “Mamma Mia!” with a Saturday matinee scheduled for midafternoon. It’s one of the weekend’s marquee arts events and a chance to see local students on stage.

Later in the day, an immersive “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” charity show and soirée is planned at 17 Industrial Street NW in Fort Walton Beach. The ticketed benefit supports an inclusive sensory playground project for autistic and neurodivergent children.

Over on the commercial side of town, Emerald Coast Harley-Davidson is hosting a “Big Game” Saturday cookout from noon to 2 p.m., inviting riders and neighbors to stop by for free food ahead of football Sunday. The event coincides with the dealer’s ongoing motorcycle giveaway promotion.

Regionally, Brunch Fest is drawing crowds to the Destin Harbor today for a mid-day mix of food tastings, brunch cocktails, and live music, giving Fort Walton Beach residents another nearby option for getting out and about.
