City grants aim to boost neighborhood projects

The City of Sherwood is inviting ideas for its Community Enhancement Program, with grant applications now open as of February 5. The program is funded through Metro and is designed to back projects that make visible, long-term improvements around town. Eligible projects can focus on anything from beautifying public spaces and expanding recreation options to improving environmental quality or supporting residents who are often underserved.

Nonprofits, government agencies, and city advisory committees are encouraged to apply. City staff are urging applicants to review the program guidelines, confirm that their ideas meet the criteria, and line up any needed partnerships early. Funded projects are expected to strengthen neighborhood connections and add to Sherwood’s overall livability.

Schools close out a busy week

It has been a packed first week of February across Sherwood schools. At Sherwood High School, Staff Appreciation Week runs through today, with students and families recognizing educators and support staff in a variety of small ways. The celebration leads into next week’s Mental Health Week, which will bring additional programming and outreach for students.

Sherwood Middle School capped Friday night with its Snow Ball dance for students, one of the first big social events of the new year. District calendars also show a long weekend ahead with the Presidents Day closure on February 16, giving families some extra time to regroup mid-month.

Weekend fun and game-day prep

Local businesses are leaning into the big football weekend. Langer’s Entertainment Center hosted a busy Friday happy hour on February 6 and is promoting lane reservations for its “Superb Owl” bowling packages on Sunday’s game day. The attraction is pitching itself as a family-friendly way to watch the matchup while keeping kids moving.

Meanwhile, the Sherwood Public Library’s Adult Winter Reading Challenge continues through the end of February, giving residents a quieter way to spend the darker evenings. Library staff are highlighting reading lists and upcoming programs, including a series of winter talks and discussions.
