Water main repairs wrap up downtown

Drivers moving through downtown should still plan for some congestion around West Lanier Avenue at Church Street as road crews finish surface repairs following a recent water main leak. Earlier emergency work stabilized the line, and paving work is expected to wrap up after lane closures tied to Friday’s repair schedule.

Council adjusts work session calendar

City leaders have canceled the February work session and will shift to a new schedule starting in March. Work sessions will now take place on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the training room on the second floor of City Hall, giving residents a consistent time and place to follow major projects and policy discussions.

New GoVille app connects residents to City Hall

Residents now have another way to reach City Hall thanks to a new mobile app called GoVille. The app brings city news, service requests and key contacts into one place, including tools to report issues such as potholes or code concerns directly from a smartphone. Officials hope the app will make it easier to stay informed and get quick responses from city departments.

Call for artists to brighten downtown bench

The city is inviting local artists to submit designs for a decorative bench near Courthouse Square. The winning concept will be turned into a permanent public art piece, adding another pop of color to the walkable core. Interested artists are being asked to share concepts that reflect Fayetteville’s history, green spaces and growing creative community.

Public safety programs and weekend happenings

The police department is gearing up for its next Citizens Police Academy session later this month, offering residents a closer look at topics such as traffic safety, fraud prevention, criminal investigations and K-9 demonstrations. The multiweek program is designed to build stronger relationships between officers and neighbors.

Elsewhere around town, today’s schedule includes a faith and arts event at Trilith along with a grilled cheese and chili cook-off fundraiser at a local brewery, giving families several ways to spend a February Saturday close to home. Fayette County High School is also marking District Honor Band and Hall of Fame activities, highlighting student musicians and alumni.
