As the weekend wraps up, Villa Rica heads into a new week with a major road project moving forward, a full slate of community events, and busy school calendars.

Here’s a quick look at what’s happening around town today and in the days ahead.

Villa Rica Parkway road bids close Monday

The city is taking a key next step on the long-planned Villa Rica Parkway connection between downtown and the Mirror Lake area. Contractors have until Monday morning, February 9, to submit sealed bids for the road improvement project at City Hall.

The work will cover a stretch from North Carroll Street and East Church Street out to the Mirror Lake Connector, adding new roadway, curb and gutter, sidewalks, stormwater upgrades, and landscaped medians. Once crews receive a notice to proceed, they are expected to have about a year to substantially complete the job, with final completion targeted within 12 months.

Residents should expect periodic construction traffic and lane shifts along the corridor once work begins, but the finished parkway is designed to improve traffic flow and provide a more direct link between downtown and the growing commercial and residential areas near Mirror Lake.

Weekend wrap and library events

Saturday brought a busy lineup of local activities, from family fun and church gatherings to live music around town. Today is quieter on the calendar, but the coming week still offers chances to get out of the house.

The Villa Rica Public Library is highlighting several events, including a yoga hour on Monday afternoon, February 9, followed by a community chess club meet-up later that day. The branch also continues to host early childhood programs, such as baby-friendly sensory time, along with its regular services and resources for students and adults.

Schools prepare for a full February

Local schools are also gearing up for a busy stretch. At Ithica Elementary, the parent–teacher–student organization is rolling into February with Candy Grams running February 9–12, giving families and students a way to share small notes and treats on campus.

The school will also host a Black History Month Celebration Night on Monday, February 9, in the evening, with additional family nights and a Titan Ball later in the month. Similar winter and early spring events are appearing across the local school system as campuses focus on community-building and midyear milestones.

Between infrastructure work, community gatherings, and school activities, the coming days will bring plenty of movement across Villa Rica, on and off the roads.
