Good morning, Onalaska. Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening around town over the last couple of days.

Police investigate stabbing on Carter Place

On Friday afternoon, a 76-year-old man was stabbed in the arm during a domestic incident at a home on Carter Place. Police say they were called shortly after 3 p.m. and found the man with a wound to his left arm.

The victim was taken to a hospital in La Crosse and is reported to have injuries that are not life threatening. A 45-year-old woman was arrested and is being held on tentative charges that include substantial battery, disorderly conduct while armed, and resisting. Investigators say the two people know each other and that there is no ongoing danger to the public while the case is reviewed for formal charges.

Heart Walk and Wellness Expo highlights prevention

Today, residents are being encouraged to lace up their walking shoes for the third annual Heart Walk and Wellness Expo at the Houser Family YMCA in Onalaska. The event runs from 8 to 11 a.m. on the indoor track and is free to attend.

Organizers describe the walk as a drop-in event for all ages, with no registration required. After getting some laps in, participants can visit dozens of information booths focused on heart health, fitness, nutrition, and local programs that support people managing chronic conditions.

Hilltoppers stay hot on the hardwood

On the high school sports front, the Onalaska boys basketball team continued a strong season with a statement win over rival La Crosse Central on Thursday night. The Hilltoppers pulled away for a 64-52 victory, improving their record to 15-1.

That momentum carried into the weekend. On Saturday, Onalaska traveled to Hamline University for a Border Battle matchup with Apple Valley of Minnesota. A statewide scoreboard later showed Onalaska edging Apple Valley 58-57 in a tight contest, giving the team another quality win away from home and keeping confidence high as the postseason picture starts to take shape.
