New nonprofit clinic expands local health care

A new Modesto Health Center on East Orangeburg Avenue is now open under Livingston Community Health, adding another option for residents who struggle to see a doctor regularly. The nonprofit says the clinic is focused on serving vulnerable patients with primary and preventive care, women’s health, pediatrics, chronic disease management, and mental health services.

The site becomes the organization’s first full clinic in Modesto and its eighth overall in the region. Leaders say the goal is to make it easier for families on the east side of town to get same-day or routine appointments without leaving the city.

Highway 132 crash brings minor injuries

Traffic was slowed on State Route 132 near Rushing Road after a two-vehicle collision late Monday morning. According to initial CHP reports, a pickup towing a travel trailer and a Subaru collided, leaving both vehicles with front-end damage.

Paramedics treated at least one person for minor injuries at the scene before clearing the roadway. The exact cause remains under investigation, and officers are asking anyone who saw the crash to contact them with information.

Cold winter storm sweeps into the Valley

Modesto is feeling the leading edge of what forecasters are calling one of the colder storms of this winter. The system is bringing periods of rain to the valley floor, with snow stacking up in the Sierra and foothills and blustery conditions on local roads.

Residents are being urged to watch for ponding water on streets, slower freeway traffic, and rapidly changing conditions if they are heading toward the mountains. Local agencies also remind drivers to give themselves extra time for commutes during heavy showers.

Johnny Cash fundraiser and more weekend events

Looking ahead, Prospect Theater Project is getting ready for its annual Johnny Cash Birthday Bash fundraiser on Saturday, February 21. The tradition brings together a lineup of local musicians performing the “Man in Black’s” classics to support the nonprofit theater’s programming.

Tickets include both general admission and limited preferred seating, and organizers say the show often sells out. The event adds to a busy late-February calendar that also features concerts and family shows at the Gallo Center and other venues around town.

City boards continue regular business

City and regional boards are also in session this week. The Landmark Preservation Commission met Monday afternoon to review items related to Modesto’s historic resources. Meanwhile, the Modesto Irrigation District recently advanced a major rehabilitation project for the Don Pedro Visitor Center and Trading Post, with construction expected to start in March.
