Louisville Daily Local Headlines — Feb. 26, 2026
Louisville, KY – February 26, 2026 – Corridor upgrades wrap, freight truck survey extended, animal cruelty case update, and Metro Council honors.
Here is your quick look at what’s moving in Louisville on Thursday, Feb. 26.
1) Two big corridor projects are now complete
City leaders say work has wrapped on two transportation projects aimed at making key routes safer and easier to use for people driving, walking, and biking.
The East Market Streetscape work covers roughly a mile between Brook Street and Baxter Avenue and includes upgraded crossings, accessibility improvements, and a separated bike lane, with a few finishing touches still underway.
Officials also marked completion of the River Road multi-modal project, which is intended to improve connections along the riverfront and reduce conflict points between vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
2) Freight and truck-traffic survey deadline extended
If truck routes and noise are a regular issue in your neighborhood, there’s still time to weigh in. The city extended the public survey for its freight mobility action plan through March 6.
The plan is meant to help guide where large trucks travel and how freight moves through Louisville, with an emphasis on reducing impacts in residential areas.
3) Animal cruelty case update after surrender
Police say a Louisville woman wanted in an animal cruelty investigation turned herself in on Wednesday. She faces charges tied to the condition of dogs found inside a home, according to investigators and court documents.
The case is being handled through the city’s animal services and animal cruelty enforcement efforts, and officials said the investigation remains part of the record moving through court.
4) Metro Council spotlights community service for Black History Month
Metro Council held its annual Black History Month program on Thursday, with each council member recognizing a local honoree for contributions in their district.
The program also included recognition of labor and community leaders for service and support during the month’s events.
