Arrest announced in deadly Natomas shooting

Sacramento police said a 27-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with a fatal shooting in the Natomas area earlier this month. Officers previously responded to the 1500 block of West El Camino Avenue and found a man with at least one gunshot wound; the victim later died at a hospital. Police said the suspect was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide and firearm-related charges, and the investigation is still active.

Fix50 weekend lane reduction hits the US 50/I-5 interchange

Drivers moving through downtown should expect a squeeze on eastbound US 50 near the I-5 interchange. Transportation officials said lanes 3 and 4 are scheduled to be closed for a bridge-deck joint seal replacement, leaving two lanes open through the work zone. The lane reduction is set to run from 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 through 5 a.m. Monday, March 2, with additional connector impacts and shifting lanes nearby.

State prison death in Folsom investigated as a homicide

State corrections officials said they are investigating the Feb. 23 death of an incarcerated person at California State Prison, Sacramento as a homicide. Officials said staff found the man unresponsive in his cell, attempted life-saving measures, and outside medical personnel later pronounced him dead. His cellmate was detained and placed in restricted housing while investigators and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office review the case.

Springlike warmth today, with changes possible by early week

Forecasters said temperatures around Sacramento are expected to climb into the 70s, running well above normal for late February, with record-challenging heat possible Saturday. Looking ahead, they’re also watching a system that could bring isolated thunderstorms to parts of Northern California and the Sierra, with showers lingering into Monday in some areas.

The city is teeing up two corridor planning efforts focused on safety and mobility: a Fruitridge Road plan between Riverside and Stockton boulevards, and an Arden-Auburn plan covering portions of Arden Way, Auburn Boulevard and Harvard Street. Community workshops are scheduled for March 4 and March 11. Separately, city leaders highlighted progress from the first year of an effort aimed at speeding up development reviews and inspections while keeping customer service available both online and in person.
