1) East-side repast shooting leaves two dead

Detroit police say gunfire broke out Friday evening, Feb. 27, outside a repast near the 19000 block of Sherwood on the city’s east side. Two people were killed and two others were hospitalized, according to investigators. Authorities said roughly 100 people were at the gathering, and they’re urging anyone with video, tips, or firsthand information to contact homicide detectives or Crime Stoppers.

In the short term, neighbors can expect a continued police presence as detectives review surveillance footage and interview witnesses.

2) Free mental health and substance-misuse summits brought resources to the west side

On Saturday, Feb. 28, organizers hosted back-to-back, no-cost summits focused on men’s wellness and youth mental health. The day included prevention education, wellness screenings, and practical supports intended to make it easier for families to connect with help without jumping through hoops.

3) Pro women’s hockey is headed back to Little Caesars Arena

Detroit will host another neutral-site Professional Women’s Hockey League matchup on March 28 at Little Caesars Arena.
