1) Fatal pedestrian crash involving a Fontana resident
Authorities say a 42-year-old man from Fontana was struck and killed shortly after midnight Monday, March 2, near Foothill Boulevard and Eucalyptus Avenue in Rialto. Investigators reported the man was crossing outside a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, and early statements indicated impairment was not suspected. The case remained under investigation as of Tuesday.
2) Small quake logged near Fontana
A magnitude 1.1 earthquake was recorded at about 3:21 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, northeast of Rancho Cucamonga. Seismologists placed the epicenter roughly 9 miles northwest of Fontana at around 10 km deep.
Quakes this size are often not widely felt, but they’re a reminder that the region is seismically active year-round.
3) Planning Commission: permits and business changes
Fontana’s Planning Commission met Tuesday evening, March 3. The published agenda included public hearing items tied to local business permits, including a request connected to an ABC Type 41 (beer and wine) license for an existing restaurant on Ceres Avenue.
