Fontana commission to review proposed commercial center on Aug. 18
Fontana’s Planning Commission is scheduled to consider a proposal for a 69,617-square-foot commercial center at the northwest corner of Sierra Avenue and Terra Vista Drive on Aug. 18, 2026.
The project would cover approximately 9.3 acres and would require changes to the city’s General Plan and the Arboretum Specific Plan. The request seeks to change the site’s land-use designation from Residential Planned Community to General Commercial.
What the proposal includes
The proposed center is described as including a 49,362-square-foot grocery store, a 13,017-square-foot inline shop building, a 9,544-square-foot pad building and a 3,694-square-foot drive-through restaurant.
The request also includes gas-station and drive-through uses. The applicant is seeking alcohol licenses for off-site sales and sampling.
If approved, the project would replace the site’s planned residential-community designation with a commercial designation and add retail, grocery, fuel and restaurant uses at a prominent Fontana intersection. That land-use change is a central issue for the commission because the current designation is not General Commercial.
Item was continued from July
The commission’s Aug. 18 hearing follows a continuation from its July 21, 2026, meeting. The scheduled item concerns the proposed plan and related land-use changes; it is not a final entitlement or construction approval.
The commission’s action will determine the next step for the proposal. The city’s hearing notice does not identify a grocery tenant or provide a construction start date, so the project’s eventual operator and timing remain unsettled.
Residents and other interested parties will have the opportunity to follow the Planning Commission’s consideration of the proposal at the Aug. 18 hearing.
