Brush fire in north Cape traced to illegal campfire
A weekend brush fire that sent thick smoke across North Cape Coral has been traced back to an illegal campfire, according to fire officials. The fire burned about 36 acres and led to a temporary closure of Del Prado Boulevard between Kismet Parkway and the Coral Lakes area while crews worked the scene. Officials said there were no evacuations reported, and crews stayed on site into the night to secure containment.
The reminder from responders was straightforward: Cape Coral and Lee County remain under a burn ban, and open flames are not allowed. Authorities said the ban is aimed at preventing fast-moving vegetation fires from threatening neighborhoods during dry conditions.
UEP construction: lane closures and local road restrictions continue
New weekly road-work notices for the Utilities Extension Project outline several lane closures and local road restrictions starting the week of March 2. On major routes, the notices list inside-lane closures on Santa Barbara Boulevard (between NE 15th Avenue and NE 16th Avenue) and multiple stretches of Diplomat Parkway, with drivers directed to follow detour signage.
On the east-side work area, the notice includes inside-lane closures along Kismet Parkway E (from NE 14th Place to NE 19th Place) and a series of local streets marked as closed or limited to local traffic. The project team notes that specific locations can shift with weather and underground conditions, so commuters should plan extra time and expect changes.
City schedules construction and design industry roundtable

The session is billed as a chance to discuss workforce needs, development trends, and ways the city can better support the sector. Registration is required, and RSVPs are requested by March 16.
