Burn Ban, Spring Break Prep, and Traffic Changes Lead Corpus Christi Headlines
It has been a busy stretch of days across the Coastal Bend, with public safety, spring events, and infrastructure all making headlines.
60-Day Burn Ban Now in Effect
Nueces County officials have issued a 60-day burn ban following worsening drought conditions and elevated wildfire risk. The order prohibits outdoor burning, including trash fires, bonfires, and campfires in unincorporated areas and on city beaches and in parks.
City leaders are urging residents to use extra caution with equipment, avoid parking on dry grass, and properly dispose of cigarettes. With spring break approaching and dry brush across the region, officials say prevention is critical.
City Prepares for Spring Break Crowds
The City of Corpus Christi is gearing up for a surge of visitors from March 6 through March 15. Lifeguards will patrol Gulf beaches using mobile units, and an emergency lane will be maintained along parts of the shoreline.
Due to fire concerns, a burn ban remains in place on city beaches through March 28. Dogs are temporarily restricted from certain Gulf beach areas during peak spring break days. Officials are encouraging beachgoers to monitor the flag warning system for surf and rip current conditions.
Lawmakers Visit Corpus Christi Army Depot
Federal lawmakers toured the Corpus Christi Army Depot on March 6, voicing support for expanding the facility’s workload. Leaders highlighted the depot’s importance to military readiness and the local economy, calling for continued investment and job stability in the region.
Street Closures and Traffic Impacts
Several traffic changes took effect March 6 as part of ongoing city projects and special events. Portions of Cimmaron Boulevard have been reduced to one lane for maintenance, while reconstruction work continues on Bonner Drive.
Downtown also saw temporary impacts tied to ArtWalk and other community events, with additional runs, markets, and park activities scheduled through the weekend. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
Restaurant Inspection Results Released
The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District released its latest inspection scores covering late February through March 4. Out of 50 establishments inspected, 11 scored below a 95, while 20 earned perfect marks. Inspectors cited violations ranging from sanitation concerns to food handling issues.
As the city heads into a busy spring break week, officials across departments are emphasizing safety, preparedness, and community awareness.
