Corpus Christi Gas Prices Dip Again as Diesel Falls but Tops $5
Corpus Christi TX โ Regular gas fell to $3.534 while diesel slipped to $5.105, leaving commuters some relief but diesel-dependent businesses under pressure.
Regular gasoline and diesel both fell in the latest AAA Corpus Christi metro price check, but the declines moved against different longer-term trends. Regular gas averaged $3.534 per gallon on August 1, while diesel averaged $5.105.
Gasoline is lower by the day and week
The Corpus Christi metro regular-gas average fell 1.7 cents from the previous dayโs $3.551. It was also down 19.1 cents from a week earlier, when the average was $3.725.
The shorter-term relief has not erased the longer-term increase. Regular gasoline was 4.2 cents higher than a month ago and 91 cents higher than a year ago, when AAA listed the Corpus Christi metro average at $2.624.
Diesel remains above $5
Diesel declined 3.5 cents from the previous dayโs $5.140 average. Even after that one-day drop, the Corpus Christi metro average remained above $5 per gallon.
Diesel is moving differently from regular gas over the weekly comparison. The latest average was 17.2 cents higher than a week earlier, when diesel stood at $4.933. It was also $1.012 higher than a month ago and $1.976 higher than a year ago, when the average was $3.129.
What the split means locally
For commuters and households, the lower regular-gas average may reduce the cost of filling a passenger vehicle compared with last week, although the year-over-year increase remains substantial. Station prices can vary, so the metro average should not be treated as the price at every pump.
Dieselโs level matters beyond pickup and commercial-truck drivers. Freight carriers, delivery companies, construction crews, marine operators, contractors and service businesses can face higher operating costs when diesel remains elevated. Those costs may influence delivery charges, service calls and the prices of goods moved through the Coastal Bend, although the AAA figures alone do not establish that any particular business has raised prices.
Regional context
The U.S. Energy Information Administrationโs latest weekly data, released July 28, showed the Gulf Coast region at $3.690 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.087 for on-highway diesel on July 27. Those are regional figures, not Corpus Christi averages, but they provide broader context for the local pump prices.
AAAโs latest numbers show a favorable daily move for both fuels, while the weekly picture is more favorable for gasoline than diesel. Drivers should compare nearby stations before filling up and avoid assuming that one lower daily reading marks a sustained downward trend.
