Gas Prices Climb, Police Oversight in Flux as Fire خطر Returns
Colorado Springs, CO – March 10, 2026 – Gas prices rise, a police watchdog seeks to disband, fire danger returns, and 311 arrests logged last week.
It’s a busy stretch of headlines across Colorado Springs, with rising gas prices, questions about police oversight and renewed fire danger topping the list.
Gas Prices Jump Amid Global Tensions
Drivers are seeing higher prices at the pump this week. Local gas prices have climbed since the start of the year, with another round of increases tied to global market uncertainty.
Analysts say fears of extended geopolitical instability are contributing to the spike. For commuters in El Paso County, that means tighter household budgets and more pressure heading into spring break travel season.
Police Oversight Panel Asks to Disband
Colorado Springs’ Law Enforcement Transparency and Advisory Commission, known as LETAC, has formally asked City Council to dissolve the group.
Committee members say they lack the authority and access needed to provide meaningful oversight of the Colorado Springs Police Department. The request comes as the city approaches the fourth anniversary of its use-of-force study.
City Council is expected to begin discussing the future of the panel at a March 23 study session. If dissolved, the city would need to decide whether and how to replace it.
Fire Danger Returns to the Region
Warm, dry and windy conditions have brought Red Flag Warnings back to southern Colorado. Forecasters say gusts up to 35 mph combined with low humidity are elevating wildfire risk along the I-25 corridor, including Colorado Springs.
Temperatures climbed into the low 70s Monday, with more above-average warmth expected before a midweek cooldown. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with anything that could spark a fire.
311 Arrests Reported Last Week
In public safety news, law enforcement agencies reported 311 arrests across El Paso County between March 1 and March 7.
Incidents included gun violence, crashes and burglaries. Police continue investigating several cases, including a shooting that left one person seriously injured earlier in the week.
