Colorado Springs drivers are paying more at the pump today. AAA’s May 1 metro check shows regular gasoline at $4.445 a gallon, up 19.1 cents from yesterday, and diesel at $5.504, up 22.2 cents. Both grades are also higher than a week ago, a month ago, and a year ago.

Compared with last week, regular is up 51.8 cents and diesel is up 59.6 cents. Compared with last month, the gains are 66.7 cents for regular and 65.1 cents for diesel. Versus a year ago, regular is up 129 cents and diesel is up 214.1 cents.

Regular fuel in Colorado Springs is now slightly above Colorado’s statewide average of $4.395, while diesel is just above the state average of $5.466. That matters quickly for commuters filling up for the workweek, households trying to stretch a budget, and weekend travelers planning longer drives.

Diesel above $5.50 is especially relevant for contractors, delivery drivers, restaurants, service businesses, and anyone towing or hauling, because fuel costs can move through operating expenses fast.
