Tornado Watch, Metro Storm Damage and Thunder Home Game Lead OKC Headlines

Oklahoma City is drying out and looking ahead after a volatile stretch of spring weather across the metro.

Tornado Watch Blankets Metro

A tornado watch was issued Wednesday afternoon for much of central Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, as a powerful storm system pushed through the region. The watch covered dozens of counties and remained in effect into the late evening hours.

Meteorologists warned conditions were favorable for large hail, damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes. Residents were urged to monitor alerts and be prepared to move to interior shelter areas if warnings were issued.

Tornado Reported Near Mustang

In the early morning hours of March 11, a tornado was reported near Mustang and Tuttle on the southwest edge of the metro. Storms brought intense lightning, heavy rain and strong winds to parts of Oklahoma City.

Forecasters say additional severe weather remains possible this week as fluctuating temperatures and gusty winds continue to fuel unstable conditions. Police and emergency officials have encouraged residents to keep weather radios charged and review safety plans.

Hail and Property Impacts

Storm tracking data from earlier this week shows widespread hail across the Oklahoma City area, with some stones reportedly reaching over two inches in diameter. Tens of thousands of properties across the region may have been impacted by hail and wind.

Homeowners are now assessing roofs, vehicles and outdoor property for damage as cleanup begins in several neighborhoods.

Thunder Host Celtics Tonight

On a brighter note, the Oklahoma City Thunder return to the Paycom Center tonight to host the Boston Celtics. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Eastern time, with local fans expected to pack the arena.

The matchup comes as Oklahoma City continues its strong season push, adding some welcome energy downtown after a tense weather week.
