Colorado Springs gas and diesel ease, but prices stay high
Colorado Springs gas and diesel both eased on AAA’s May 8 check, but regular is still $4.319 and diesel $5.384, keeping fuel costs high.
Colorado Springs drivers got a small break at the pump in AAA’s latest check. Regular gas is $4.319 a gallon and diesel is $5.384. Both fuels are down from yesterday and down from last week, but both are still above last month and last year.
Since the last check, regular gas is down 15.2 cents and diesel is down 14.1 cents. Compared with a month ago, regular is up 59.2 cents and diesel is up 25.7 cents. Compared with a year ago, regular is up 117.5 cents and diesel is up 203.1 cents.
That means commuters, school runs, and weekend travelers are getting a little relief, but not a big reset. Fill-ups are still expensive enough to matter for household budgets, especially for drivers who are topping off often.
Diesel is still the tougher bill for contractors, delivery drivers, landscapers, restaurants, and other small businesses that keep vehicles on the road. Even a modest dip can help operating costs a bit, but fleet expenses are still high.
For context, AAA’s Colorado average is $4.384 for regular gas and $5.473 for diesel, while the national average is $4.546 and $5.663. Colorado Springs is a little below the state average on regular gas, but prices remain elevated across the board.
