Wakefield fuel prices hover near Rhode Island average as diesel stays high
Regular gas in Wakefield-area station guides is still in the mid-$4s, and AAA shows Rhode Island diesel above $5.60. Shopping around still matters.
Regular gas in the Wakefield area is still sitting in the mid-$4s, and AAA’s Rhode Island average slipped 0.7 cents from yesterday to $4.474 a gallon on May 10. That is just under the national regular average of $4.522, but it still leaves everyday commuting, errands, and school runs noticeably more expensive than a year ago.
Diesel also eased, but only a little. AAA put Rhode Island diesel at $5.632 a gallon on May 10, down 0.6 cents from the day before. The national diesel average was $5.647. For truck owners, contractors, delivery routes, restaurants, and other fuel-heavy businesses, diesel is still the more painful part of the local fuel picture because it remains above $5.60.
Nearby station guides show why comparing prices can still pay off. iExit’s Wakefield-Peacedale regular-gas guide showed posted prices around $4.56 a gallon, with a low near $4.47 and a high near $4.59. The South Kingstown diesel guide showed a posted spread of roughly $5.49 to $5.79, with an average around $5.64. Those gaps are not huge, but they add up for anyone filling up often.
The bigger story is that fuel prices remain elevated even after the small daily easing. AAA’s Rhode Island regular average was $2.962 a year ago, and diesel was $3.752. So while the latest move offers a little relief, it does not change the fact that drivers and businesses are still operating in a much higher-price environment than they were last spring.
For commuters and households, that means a few cents per gallon can still make a difference over a month. For service businesses, landscapers, delivery drivers, and restaurants, it can affect overhead more quickly because tanks are filled more often and in larger volumes. If you are filling up in Wakefield or nearby, it still makes sense to check a couple of stations before you pay. Share the highest and lowest pump prices you are seeing locally.
