U-111 construction underway in South Jordan toward Herriman

Construction is underway on the U-111 extension and realignment through South Jordan, a project expected to continue through 2027 and eventually connect South Jordan Parkway with Herriman Boulevard.

For drivers, residents, workers and nearby businesses, the project means an active construction area along the future roadway alignment south of South Jordan Parkway. Conditions may change as crews advance the work, so travelers should check current traffic information before making trips through the area.

What is being built

The Utah Department of Transportation is extending and realigning U-111 through Salt Lake County between South Jordan Parkway and Herriman Boulevard. The planned completed roadway will have five lanes: two northbound lanes, two southbound lanes and a center turn lane.

In South Jordan, the alignment starts near the intersection of South Jordan Parkway and Backus Highway and continues south toward Herriman Parkway and the Olympia area before connecting with Herriman Boulevard.

The five-lane design represents an expansion from an earlier concept that would have provided one lane in each direction. City engineering staff told the South Jordan City Council that the full five-lane section would be constructed after additional funding and project savings became available.

Schedule and work hours

UDOT lists construction as a 2026-2027 project and says work began Monday, February 9, 2026. Normal work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend work may occur as needed, and UDOT cautions that construction schedules can change.

South Jordan City Council minutes from the February 3, 2026, study meeting, approved March 3, record an anticipated completion around fall 2027. That is an expected completion window, not a guaranteed finish date.

Until the project is finished, residents should not assume the corridor is open in its final configuration. Lane arrangements, access points and traffic conditions may change as construction progresses. UDOT’s project information directs travelers to check current traffic updates before traveling.

Why UDOT and South Jordan are pursuing it

UDOT says the project is intended to accommodate growth, improve mobility and reduce projected future traffic delays. South Jordan’s March 11, 2026, infrastructure update places the project in the city’s broader effort to support transportation connections and long-term development.

That makes U-111 more than a short-term pavement project. The completed road is intended to provide a higher-capacity connection between South Jordan and Herriman, but the near-term effect for many residents will be construction activity and changing travel conditions.
