Wake Forest dashboard helps residents track development projects
Wake Forest has launched an expanded public dashboard that gives residents a central place to track development activity, project details and upcoming hearings.
The Town of Wake Forest announced the update on July 16, 2026. The Planning Department says the Development Activity Dashboard replaces the former Active Developments Map and is designed to make development information easier to find and follow.
What the dashboard shows
The dashboard covers development activity within Wake Forest’s planning jurisdiction, along with areas proposed for annexation. That means some listings may be outside the town’s current incorporated limits.
Users can review project locations, brief descriptions, development types and status categories. The updated system also adds a category for projects under construction. Other visual information and interactive filters are intended to help users narrow the map to projects that matter to a particular neighborhood, school route, workplace or daily commute.
Project records may also include staff contact information and details about upcoming public hearings tied to specific applications. A future hearing listing does not mean the hearing has already occurred or that the project has been approved.
How to use it
Residents can begin at the Town’s Planning Department development page and select the Development Activity Dashboard. From there, users can select a project on the map or use the available filters to locate development activity by area or category.
Opening a project record can provide a short overview, status information and links to more detailed materials. The Town says the dashboard is updated frequently, so project information and available documents may change after publication.
The dashboard is especially useful for residents checking activity near their homes, property owners considering a sale, relocators comparing neighborhoods and businesses monitoring projects that could affect traffic, customers or future demand.
Why the status matters
A dashboard listing should not automatically be read as a final land-use decision, building permit or guarantee that construction will occur. A project may be proposed, under staff review, approved, or already under construction, and those stages have different meanings.
Wake Forest’s development-review process includes staff review, while some applications also require action by an advisory board or the Board of Commissioners. Reviews may involve Planning, Public Works, Engineering, Inspections, Fire Prevention, Police and Raleigh Water.
In practical terms, a project shown as under review is still moving through the approval process. A project marked approved has received the approval reflected in its project record, but that does not necessarily establish a construction start date. A project marked under construction indicates a later stage, but the dashboard remains a tracking tool rather than a substitute for the official project record.
Where to find full plan documents
The dashboard links to the Town’s GeoCivix electronic plan-review portal for the most recent plans that have been approved or remain in review. Users must create a GeoCivix account to view detailed plans and reviewer comments.
That distinction is important: the public dashboard provides an accessible overview and navigation point, while GeoCivix contains more detailed plan-review materials. Anyone seeking site plans, staff comments or application-specific information should follow the project link and review the underlying records.
