Washington DC Gas Prices Rise to $4.24 as Diesel Reaches $5.57

Regular gasoline in Washington, DC, averaged $4.237 per gallon on July 28, or about $4.24, according to AAA’s District-specific price check. Diesel averaged $5.568 per gallon, or about $5.57.

Both fuels were higher than the prior day and the previous week, adding to costs that commuters, delivery operators, contractors, service businesses and other fuel-dependent households and employers may need to watch.

Regular gas moves higher

AAA listed Washington, DC regular gas up 0.7 cents from the previous day and 10.8 cents from a week earlier. The District-only average was also 91.2 cents higher than it was a year earlier.

That average does not mean every station in the District is charging the same amount. Pump prices can vary by neighborhood, brand, taxes, operating costs and competition, so drivers may see prices above or below the AAA figure.

Diesel reaches about $5.57

Diesel rose 0.8 cents from the prior day and 5.9 cents from the previous week, reaching a District average of $5.568 per gallon. AAA’s year-over-year comparison showed diesel up $1.741 from a year earlier.

The diesel increase matters beyond commercial trucking. Higher diesel costs can affect contractors, delivery drivers, waste and service fleets, food distribution and other businesses that rely on work vehicles or diesel-powered equipment. Those are practical cost pressures to watch, not evidence that every business has already changed its prices.

District average differs from metro figure

AAA’s broader Washington metro averages were lower than the District-only figures: $4.097 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.412 for diesel. The metro figures cover a wider area and should not be substituted for the Washington, DC, averages.

The difference is useful for residents who cross the region for work, errands or weekend travel. A driver’s actual cost may depend heavily on where the vehicle is filled, even within the same metropolitan area.

For households, the immediate impact is most visible in commuting and travel budgets. Restaurants, contractors, delivery businesses and service companies may also keep a close eye on fuel costs because vehicle expenses can affect operating margins and, over time, customer prices.
